As a group, these are among our favorite clients. Their math background means they instantly “get” what we try to do, which typically is to optimize their portfolio’s expected return/risk ratio. Often the beta and volatility of their careers is moderate to low (unless they are involved in start-ups), and they tend not to live large, which gives them a large margin of safety.

They also do well investing on their own: they don’t try to be too clever, they completely tune out the Wall Street blather, and focus on low-expense, long-term, index-oriented strategies.
